JSH M450 home safe. Product shown for illustration; specifications vary by model.

A safe that is not anchored can be carried away and attacked elsewhere. JSH's 45 years of experience include installations where securing the safe to the building is a central part of protecting its contents.

Why anchoring matters

Small and medium safes can be moved by several people. Once removed, a thief has more time and access to tools. Anchoring makes removal harder and may also be a requirement of an insurance policy or a firearm storage specification.

Planning and carrying out the installation

Choose a discreet location with a suitable structural surface and enough room to operate the door. Check for electrical cables and water pipes before drilling. Position the safe and mark the approved anchoring holes, then follow the anchor manufacturer's requirements for hole diameter, depth, cleaning and tightening.

Level the safe and complete the fixings using the specified procedure. Have the installation checked by a qualified installer, and retain the installation record and photographs where required by your insurer or licensing authority.

Equipment normally includes a suitable drill and concrete bit, approved anchors, a level, the appropriate tightening tools and a cable and pipe detector.

Frequently asked questions

Can a safe be anchored through tiles or wood flooring? The fixing must reach a suitable structural substrate. The finish alone is not an anchor point.

Is plasterboard sufficient? Plasterboard itself does not provide adequate support. Ask an installer to assess the structure and the applicable specification.

How much does installation cost? The cost depends on the safe, location and work required. Contact JSH for a quotation.
